Michael A. Kuzman, also known as “Kooz”, is an illustrator, maker of faces, and creator of imaginative-based visual experiences through line-drawing and mixed media making on paper, canvas, and wood.

Kooz, a 30 year old artist raised in Southern California and Arizona; found himself heavily inspired by simply creating things that never existed before.

Growing up in the west, Kooz found inspiration in the nature around him.
With the movement of the ocean, the texture and diversity of the Superstition Mountains, the rock forms of Sedona, and the layers in the Grand Canyon, the Sonoran Desert has provided a habitable environment to expand a young and creative mind.

With interests in Anatomy, Abstraction, Surrealism, Psychedelic Art, and Street Art; Kooz created a recognizable style, since he started doodling weird characters on lined paper during class in High School.

Independently, Kooz creates a colorful world of his own using a multitude of mediums, both wet and dry but not limited to: inks, watercolors, aerosols, oils, acrylics, graphite and charcoal. These mediums usually applied to paper, canvas, and wood.
Using abnormal techniques and layers, these “incompatible” mediums and tools create a complex yet palatable and dreamy treat for the eyes.

Loose and fluid lines quickly become the blue-print to a more intricate story of self expression; incorporating bold mark making, layered and hidden faces, atmospheric landscapes, birds, clouds, and suggestively abstract eyes…

He challenges his viewer to look closely at the work, encouraging them to puzzle-piece the image together using their unique vision and imagination, ultimately allowing for many unique interpretations.

Kooz’s art communicates that it’s possible to still have fun while making art, yet disciplining the necessary and evolutionary development of a timelessly detailed and intriguing style of illustration and painting; worthy of coming back to again and again.

Michael “Kooz” Kuzman maintains a professional art studio and gallery called Koozart, in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
